Isca Morrismen 2001 Events

For their Silver Jubilee Year, the Isca Morrismen had an extremely busy season dancing throughout South East Wales as well as travelling out of the country to visit various places in England and the Czech Republic.  Our programme for the year was as follows:-

January 2001

Saturday - 12th Night Mari Llwyd

7.00 p.m. Starting from the Star Inn, Llanvihangel Tor-y-mynydd with performances in the village during the course of the evening. A chance to enjoy this traditional Welsh folk custom, re-enacted and revived by the community with joviality, banter, music and dancing helped along by the Isca Morrismen. Around 9.00 p.m. the Mari returned to the Star Inn after it's perambulation around the parish.

The Isca Morrismen were delighted to return to the Czech Republic in association with the Friends of Pisek Twinning Association. Whilst there they danced at the Pisek Festival and at various sites within the Czech Republic.

A special silver jubilee weekend run by the Isca Morrismen who were joined by two sides from across the border - the Harthill Morrismen from Yorkshire and the Yateley Morrismen from Hampshire. All three sides celebrated their 25th Anniversary years with a dancing weekend based around the Red Hart at Llanfapley.  The dancing programme for the weekend was as follows:-

Following the move of one of our regular landlords, the side performed at the re-opening under new management of the Wheatsheaf Inn in the centre of Magor.

The side performed at a special charity evening featuring both Morris Dancing and also the Chepstow Mumming Play with the side dressed as the Isca Mummers in aid of the Latch childrens' cancer charity.

Fri 14th - Mendip Morrismen Ale

The side attended the Mendip Men's ale evening in Wrington in the countryside between Weston super Mare and Bristol.

Saturday 15th - Mummers Tour

Wednesday 26th - Boxing Day at the Ostrich Inn

12.15 p.m. onwards Our traditional one pub outing for Boxing Day, this year at the Ostrich Inn in Newland, just to the south of Monmouth. Performances were at around 12.45 p.m. and 2.15 p.m. when the side danced on a crisp dry day to an enthusiastic local audience.
