2008 Tours - Wednesday 2nd July
Valley Dragons Joint Pub Tour with Clocs Canton

Local side Clocs Canton performing recently at the Tredegar House Folk FestivalIsca Morrismen dancing at the Tredegar House Festival

This week we welcomed our friends from Clocs Canton for a tour of the Risca valley, just to the north west of Newport.  We started tonight with a visit to a new pub on the outskirts of Newbridge . . .

The Otter is a large open plan pub which opened last summer and is a Marstons owned family orientated food house with a good selection of real ales.  The pub is conveniently situated by a roundabout at the junction of the A467 with the A472 dual carriageway and has a large car parking area in which to dance.  Despite the weather and lack of a large audience, we enjoyed ourselves with some good dancing.

9.30 p.m. The Commercial, Pontymister   Press here to bring up directions on how to find The Commercial in Pontymister

We now moved on The Commercial in Pontymister, a local community pub which underwent a major refurbishment last year and which can be found on the main street through the town.

The Commercial has a very spacious front patio where furniture to suit both vertical and seated drinking can be covered by a retractable awning when required, so we danced outside despite the weather.  Inside the pub is comfortably furnished with adjoining lounge and bar/games areas where we enjoyed both an excellent pint of real ale and a warm welcome in the Gwent CAMRA Pub of the Year for 2008.

Do come and see us at some stage and if you have a liking for tradition then you will be made very welcome.  For those males amongst you who enjoy a pint or two and would like to keep fit then you will be ideal as a dancer.

If you are a musician of either sex who enjoys folk music, then again you will be well received, so whatever instrument you play, provided that it is portable, come and join us and learn our music.  Come along and we'll ensure that you enjoy yourself and hopefully come back for more as we tour our area over the summer months.

If you require any more information then please check our Contact and Feedback page for our current officers telephone numbers or email us at our address: Enquiries 'at' Isca-Morrismen.com. We are a lively bunch and travel a fair bit with our activities, both in the UK and Overseas, so come on - contact us today and join in the fun, you'll not regret it!

This year we are delighted that our traditional dancing programme is being sponsored by local Welsh Breweries, producers of excellent real ale to whom we are grateful for their wholehearted support.

Please enjoy their real ales and visit their websites to learn more by clicking on the pictures.

We also acknowledge the support and encouragement of The Mount Pleasant in Old Cwmbran, our after-practice venue during the winter.
