2009 Tours - Wednesday 10th June Isca Silurum Joint Walking Tour of Caerleon with Cardiff Ladies
|
 |

Fresh from a very active few days dancing, this week we return to our home patch for a walking tour. All three pubs are within a short distance of the ampitheatre in Caerleon, the Roman town of Isca Silurum from which we take our name and where we dance at dawn on May morning. We start off tonight's tour at:-
8.30 p.m. Goldcroft Inn, Caerleon

The Goldcroft Inn dates from an 18th Century conversion of an old Coaching Inn which had ample stabling accommodation. Situated on the edge of Goldcroft Common, inside the original Roman Encampment, over the years the Goldcroft Inn has gradually been extended to the current size.

With a large beer garden at the back, we have danced here recently as well as performing our mumming play in the main bar, so we look forward to another equally warm welcome. After some dancing and a few beers we move on to . . .
9.15 p.m. Red Lion Inn, Caerleon

An old coaching inn set in the back streets of Caerleon in Backhall Street and one of the few with a strong local clientele of all ages. The Red Lion serves a fine selection of real ales and has also won some awards over recent years for the quality of it's food. With a friendly landlord this has been a regular and welcoming dance spot over the last few years.

After the backstreet charms of the Red Lion, we move on through the lanes and over the water to the edge of Caerleon where we find:-
9.15 p.m. Bell Inn, Caerleon

The Bell Inn is a fine old pub offering traditional Welsh hostelry with a unique Breton twist. Well known for tasty and innovative food which is sourced from local Welsh ingredients, the pub is very keen on tradition and has a regular folk music session every Wednesday evening.

As a former CAMRA Gwent Pub of the Year, the Bell has an excellent selection of real ales. It also boasts of the largest range of artisan ciders in any British pub, so tonight should be a good night with a welcoming audience and a lively after dance session with a receptive audience.

Do come and see us at some stage and if you have a liking for tradition then you will be made very welcome. For those males amongst you who enjoy a pint or two and would like to keep fit then you will be ideal as a dancer.

If you are a musician of either sex who enjoys folk music, then again you will be well received, so whatever instrument you play, provided that it is portable, come and join us and learn our music. Come along and we'll ensure that you enjoy yourself and hopefully come back for more as we tour our area over the summer months.

If you require any more information then please check our Contact and Feedback page for our current officers telephone numbers or email us at our address: Enquiries 'at' Isca-Morrismen.com. We are a lively bunch and travel a fair bit with our activities, both in the UK and Overseas, so come on - contact us today and join in the fun, you'll not regret it!

This year we are delighted that our traditional dancing programme is being sponsored by local Welsh Breweries, producers of excellent real ale to whom we are grateful for their wholehearted support.
Please enjoy their real ales and visit their websites to learn more by clicking on the pictures.
We also acknowledge the support and encouragement of The Mount Pleasant in Old Cwmbran, our after-practice venue during the winter.
