Shirenewton Joint Tour with
Tiger Feet Appalachian Dancers

Tiger Feet Appalachian DancersIsca Morrismen dancing at the Tredegar House Festival

For our next summer tour we were delighted to welcome back Tiger Feet after their tour with us last summer in the Wye Valley.  This week we travelled over to the villages of Mynyddbach and Shirenewton set on the main road from Usk through to Chepstow where we visited two fine old pubs, starting at . . .

The Tan House in Shirenweton

The Tan House is a traditional village pub and a fine hostellerie set in the village of Shirenewton, long a favourite haunt of the Isca men. The pub is said to have been named after G. Thomas, a tanner who lived there in 1715.  You'll find a good pint here in this large pub set on the main road in the middle of the village.  After a spell of dancing and some light refreshments, we moved down the hill and on to . . .

The Carpenters Arms in Mynyddbach - A fine old pub well worth a visitPress for a map of how to find the Carpenters Arms, Mynyddbach

An interesting old pub on the bend of the road in Mynyddbach, just outside Shirenewton.  The Carpenters has lovely old flagstone floors, beams and seven rooms resulting from the merger of three cottages over the years.  A fine selection of 5 real ales and a collection of over 50 malt whiskies, along with good food, make this pub well worth a visit.

The Isca Morrismen preparing for a night of singing and merriment start off by fetching the traditional carved wassail bowl ready for the action at the Ostrich Inn during their recent wassail.Dancing at the recent Tredegar House Festival

Do come and see us at some stage and if you have a liking for tradition then you will be made very welcome.  For those males amongst you who enjoy a pint or two and would like to keep fit then you will be ideal as a dancer.
