2009 Tours - Wednesday 17th June
Otley Brewery Joint Pub Tour with Cardiff Morris

Cardiff Morris dancing out on one of their toursIsca Morrismen dancing in Usk recently on a warm summer evening

We travel this week over to Pontypridd and the home of one of our sponsors, The Otley Brewery, producers of an excellent range of Gold Medal Award Winning Ales.

We will be dancing at two of the Otley pubs and accompanying us this evening will be our friends from Cardiff Morris, a local mixed morris side.  We start off tonight's tour at:-

8.30 p.m.  Otley Arms, Treforest

The Otley Arms is the original Otley pub which was originally called the Commercial Hotel and was purchased by the Otley family in 1975.

It has always been popular with locals and students alike and you can regularly find a good mixture of the two inside.

We have danced here for several years with the highlight of the year being the Oct-O-ber Fest at the end of October where we provide the Saturday night entertainment.

After a few beers we will move on to The Bunch of Grapes in Ynysangharad Road, Pontypridd which backs onto one of the last few remnants of the Glamorganshire Canal (constructed in 1792).  The pub itself was built circa 1800 to satisfy the thirst of both the hot forge masters making all the heavy anchor chains for the British Navy and all the passing canal workers on their way to Cardiff with full loads of Coal and Iron Ore.

9.30 p.m.  Bunch of Grapes, Pontypridd

The Bunch of Grapes was the second pub to join the Otley portfolio in the mid 1980s and has always been a very traditional pub which has more recently developed into a gastro-pub and won several national awards.

The Bunch has a good sized car park, two gardens, a cosy restaurant and a great selection of cask ales, so we expect to be made very welcome this evening in what should be an ideal finishing pub.

Do come and see us at some stage and if you have a liking for tradition then you will be made very welcome.  For those males amongst you who enjoy a pint or two and would like to keep fit then you will be ideal as a dancer.

If you are a musician of either sex who enjoys folk music, then again you will be well received, so whatever instrument you play, provided that it is portable, come and join us and learn our music.  Come along and we'll ensure that you enjoy yourself and hopefully come back for more as we tour our area over the summer months.

If you require any more information then please check our Contact and Feedback page for our current officers telephone numbers or email us at our address: Enquiries 'at' Isca-Morrismen.com. We also acknowledge the support and encouragement of The Mount Pleasant in Old Cwmbran, our after-practice venue during the winter.
